Entonces Judit se tiró al suelo boca abajo, se echó ceniza en la cabeza y dejó a la vista la ropa de costal que traía puesta. A esa hora se estaba ofreciendo el incienso de la tarde en el templo de Dios en Jerusalén, y Judit le gritó al Señor con todas sus fuerzas, diciendo:
Pero Judit se postró sobre su rostro, puso ceniza sobre su cabeza, y descubrió el cilicio del que estaba vestida. El incienso de aquella tarde se estaba ofreciendo en Jerusalén en la casa de Dios, y Judit clamó al Señor a gran voz, y dijo:
