Statement of Fundamental Truths 1916 AD

Formed in 1914 when Pentecostal ministers who had been working without structure gathered to agree on doctrine, credentials and the handling of missionary funds. It is now the largest Pentecostal body in the world, with the great majority of its members outside the United States.

What marks it out

Speaking in tongues held as the initial physical evidence of baptism in the Holy Spirit, and divine healing as part of the ordinary expectation of the church. A "Finished Work" account of sanctification as progressive, which separated it from the Holiness stream it came out of. Indigenous churches abroad were made self-governing early, which is much of why the growth went where it did.

Alongside it

Also from Pentecostal.

In the record

  1. 1906–1909 AD Revival

    The Azusa Street revival

A racially mixed revival in a disused mission, from which Pentecostalism spread worldwide within a generation.

This body appears in the history but does not carry recorded doctrinal positions here, so it is absent from the comparison panels.
