Grew from the Millerite expectation of an imminent return of Christ; the Seventh-day Adventist Church retains Saturday observance.
What marks it out
The second coming as the organising expectation rather than a closing article — which is what the name means. Conditional immortality in most Adventist bodies: the dead sleep, and eternal life is given rather than innate, so there is no everlasting conscious punishment. A readiness to set a date, and to reckon publicly with having done so, that other traditions have not shared.
