The Stone-Campbell movement sought to bypass denominational division by restoring the practice of the New Testament church.

What marks it out

Weekly communion, baptism by immersion, and congregational government, offered not as one more denominational package but as the ground on which the denominations might dissolve. "Where the scriptures speak, we speak; where the scriptures are silent, we are silent." The movement's founding aim was to end division, and its own subsequent divisions are the part of its history it reckons with most.
